About this deal

Ash also admits Veses wants Kolis and since he wants nothing to do with her, Ash is the next best thing and the more he denied her the more she wanted to break him, but Veses doesn't really want him, and he NEVER wanted her. Nyktos tells her that she is important to the shadowlands, and that the embers that she carries are far too important, and he values them.

Afterwards, Sera feeds from Nyktos, because it’s the only way for her to heal without going into stasis, and she sees a memory of hers–one that she pulls out of Nyktos, which tells him that she’s closer than ever before to Ascension. When she touches him, Nyktos asks her to promise him that she will never go after Kolis again, and she does promise him that. I absolutely adored the first book, and I fell in love with Sera and Nyktos as much, if not more, than I did with Poppy and Cas, but sadly this sequel was a little bit of a letdown for me. I also waited over a year for this sequel, and I swear I sometimes hate myself for reading books so fast and not being able to wait longer since I know I KNOW I will have to wait possibly another year or so for the final book.Nektas also reveals that Nyktos understands her position and her actions, not that he has forgiven her, which is way easier than understanding and acceptance, but also mentions that he found Nyktos fully at peace when he found them together. And to think all the theories as to why he was not listed in the Primal list was because he was a traitor and was suspicious. Then she decides to leave the office and the two of them go to the Rise to see what is going on, even though Saion continues to complain that it’s such a bad idea. Nektas sweeps over them, and at first Sera is afraid that he is about to kill her for what she did to Nyktos, because after all Nektas sees Nyktos as family, but the Draken actually settles next to her and protects her from Nyktos’ reaction.

Now, I love Poppy and Cas, but there is something about Ash and Sera that just makes me melt and go feral at the same time. She wakes up hours later to Nektas staring at her, and he tells her that Erlina left the clothing for the coronation as well as that Nyktos is at Court, and she realizes that he didn’t keep his promise to her. Sera and Saion talk and he asks her about her attempt to escape to kill Kolis, but she doesn’t reveal more than asking him if Nyktos would make something like that up. There were just so many repetitive moments in the middle part and we were running around in circles. Nektas eventually leaves, and Sera questions Nyktos about his night, though he gives nothing away about what happened in her chamber.Everyone is in Nyktos’s office, and they make the plan to go to Irelone first, and then to see Kolis. A Light in the Flame picks up where we left off in A Shadow in the Ember and despite loving the first book and giving it a 5⭐️ rating, I think the series started to lose its magic for me especially after TWOTQ. I'm glad that Sera and Nyktos maintain their individuality because that's the issue I had with Casteel's characterization being almost non-existent in TWOTQ and dependent on Poppy.

To be fair, A War of Two Queens was a bit dry to get through, which is why I think there were a lot of negative reviews to it, and a people objected to the three-way relationship between Poppy, Cas and Kieran for various reasons. It's nice to know that in the present time (FBAA timeline) these two are together and she ascended, are madly in love and had two children. It all comes down to her being raised from birth to believe that her kingdom was dying due to a deal that her ancestor made with the Primal of Life, and what was she supposed to do? Nyktos also tells Sera that the Rot should disappear once the Embers of life are in him, which fills her with relief, because it means that there is a future for her realm/country.This sequel picks up right where A Shadow in the Ember ended, as Sera and Nyktos discover that Sera will most likely die because of the embers she holds inside her. He explains to Sera that the purpose of the Chosen is to replenish Iliseeum and be a balance by having Gods that know what it’s like to be human. Nyktos asks why he whipped her that time, and she tells him that Tavius just hated her, and he was a person who likes to dominate others so when he can’t do it, it makes him more determined.

Maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment, or I’m just giddy with anticipation to see how it’s all going to come to a head. Due to this diagnosis, educating people on the varying degrees of blindness has become of passion of hers, right alongside writing, which she plans to do as long as she can.Holland tells her that Queen Ezmeria has been making much needed changes in Lasania, and Sera also finds out that Ezra had married Marisol.
